Proven Thoroughbreds’ quartet of broodmares at the Magic Millions National Sale grossed $590,000 on Tuesday.
Stakes placed mare KYLEASE was the best credentialled of the four in terms of racetrack performance and therefore was expected to reach the highest price in the sale ring.
But it was SALTOREE (pictured) who stole the limelight when she was knocked down to Glenlogan Park for $270,000, a pleasantly surprising amount for a modest nine-start maiden winner that was purchased for $160,000 as a yearling.
Clearly being a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner to SECRET AGENDA, and being by a top sire in NOT A SINGLE DOUBT, boosted her appeal to buyers.
It served to highlight that in the current marketplace, if you have the desired article, predictions go out the window.
A short time later in the sale, KYLEASE was sold for $240,000 to Eureka Stud, representing a substantial profit for her owners given she was a $60,000 yearling and earned $415,440 on the racetrack.
THINK GLORY ($50,000) and TRIP THE LIGHT ($30,000) rounded out our draft, which was expertly prepared by the team at Kenmore Lodge.
A big thank you to Kenmore proprietors Cameron and Kellie Bond, who finished the day with more than $1.5 million in sales, placing them in the top 10 vendors.
