Wet weather forecast for the Sunshine Coast has the Joe Pride-trained STOCKMAN well placed to claim back-to-back stakes wins this Saturday.

Fresh off his McKell Cup victory at Rosehill on June 19, STOCKMAN tackles the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) where he is likely to get his preferred heavy conditions (4:3-1-0). With the latest COVID outbreak prohibiting jockeys from travelling between states, Pride has secured the services of leading Brisbane rider Ryan Maloney.

SCALLOPINI will be Proven’s other stakes runner at the Sunshine Coast’s feature meeting. The O’Dea/Hoysted stable stalwart is set to line up in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) in search of his 10th career win from 29 starts.

Seven other gallopers in the black and lime green colours will face the starter in the week ahead, including last start winner NEXT TO EXCEL at Eagle Farm’s midweek meeting.

BLACKBOOKER

RUBINOCCHI lowered the colours of some high-priced 2YOs at Kembla Grange last Thursday. In a dashing display of speed, the daughter of RUBICK led throughout and showed plenty of grit at the business end to win by 1.8 lengths. The performance elicited comparisons to former the former Proven/Pride stakes-placegetter BROOK MAGIC who broke her maiden in similar fashion at the same course. This filly is likely to head to town now and will be a live chance.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Eagle Farm Wednesday June 30

2YO Class 1 Plate 1200m:

NEXT TO EXCEL

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: First go at the trip after comfortably disposing of older rivals in maiden company at Ballina. Drawn to do no work in the run and should give herself every chance up near the lead.

QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1400m:

HIGH HANDED

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Covered plenty of ground last time out and not surprisingly faded over this trip. Expect him to be ridden quietly from the wide gate this time and could improve at odds.

Ipswich Friday July 02

Class 1 Handicap 800m:

TRIP THE LIGHT

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Just edged out over this trip first-up. Has good second-up stats so expecting her to be in the finish again.

Nowra Friday July 02

F&M Maiden Plate 1100m:

BHUTAN

Kerry Parker/Winona Costin

Comment: Lightly-raced filly resuming over an unsuitable trip. Looking for her to be running on late with a view to racing over longer distances later in the preparation.

CG&E Maiden Plate 1100m:

CAPTURED IN TIME

Kerry Parker/Jeff Penza

Comment: Freshened since ridden poorly from a wide gate and dropped out over 1400m at Kembla. Three runs prior were sound but may find others sharper over this trip.

Rosehill Saturday July 3

F&M BM78 Handicap 1400m:

INVINCIANO

Joe Pride/Brenton Avdulla

Comment: Consistent mare whose preparation has been hampered by rain. Doubt she will get much dryer conditions here but she needs to run and is going well, evidenced by a career-best fresh run a month ago.

Sunshine Coast Saturday July 3

Listed Caloundra Cup 2400m:

STOCKMAN

Joe Pride/Ryan Maloney

Comment: Sailed through the heavy conditions to win the McKell Cup last outing. Was coming back 400m in trip that day so should appreciate getting back out to a mile and a half on a spacious track. The predicted rain obviously enhances his claims too.

QTIS 3YO Handicap 1000m:

RICH LISTER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Unlucky runner-up over 1200m here on May 29. Hasn’t raced since but comes back to 1000m. Strikes a competitive field but has above average ability.

Listed Glasshouse Handicap 1400m:

SCALLOPINI

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jag Guthmann-Chester

Comment: Put in an uncharacteristically poor run fresh when down the course in the Group 2 Moreton Cup at Eagle Farm. Certainly worthy of another chance racing over the same track and distance as his Sunshine Coast Cup win last year.

Gold Coast Saturday June 26

QTIS 3YO BM65 Handicap 1200m:

RICH LISTER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Unlucky runner-up over 1200m first-up. Kept fresh since and has above average ability.
