Six-year-old gelding Dragon Flyer overcame a torrid run in transit to score a deserving metropolitan win at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The John Thompson-trained gelding was trapped three-wide facing the breeze in the 1550 metre event but a composed Tye Angland ride kept the horse settled.

Upon straightening, Dragon Flyer worked his way into the lead before racing clear for a 3-3/4 length victory.

Dragon Flyer has been a model of consistency for the Proven Thoroughbreds team but his long run of placings was becoming a source of frustration until Wednesday’s success.

His overall record now reads 22 starts for three wins and 13 placings with total earnings of $117,675.

A big congratulations to John, Tye and all our patient owners.
