A large contingent of runners will represent Proven Thoroughbreds over the next seven days, led by the Steve O’Dea stable.

O’Dea has nominated 11 horses for Proven, including a trio for Saturday’s meeting at Doomben where COOL SEQUENCE, RECKLESS CHOICE and MISSED THE ALARM continue their campaigns.

Meanwhile our Goulburn trainer John Bateman has three runners of his own this week – consistent 6yos NICCONITA and GREENSPAN (pictured), and promising 3yo BOMBARDEO.

There are no Joe Pride-trained runners this week however, SNIPPY FOX, MACCOMO, CAPTURED IN TIME and DOUBLE MAJOR are all scheduled to trial at Warwick Farm on Friday.

BLACKBOOKER

No blackbooker this week

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Ipswich Wednesday August 19

F&M Maiden Handicap 1350m:

BRING ME SHOWERS

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Returns from a six week freshen-up after disappointing as an odds-on favourite at Ipswich over 1700m. Placed in town prior to that and would go close on that effort. Probably wants a touch further on a bigger track.

C&G Maiden Handicap 1350m:

TRAVOLI

Steve O’Dea/Anthony Allen

Comment: Very green in two runs to date but shown some ability. Hit the line well enough first-up to suggest he will be a winning chance here.

Gatton Friday August 21

Maiden Handicap 1100m:

PLATINUM FACTOR

Steve O’Dea/Anthony Allen

Comment: 3yo filly making her debut after overracing in a trial at Doomben on August 11. May be better suited under race speed conditions and this looks a suitable starting point to her career.

Newcastle Saturday August 22

BM64 F&M Handicap 1400m:

NICCONITA

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Racing consistently without winning. Should be ready to hit her peak now and can take her earnings past $200k with victory here.

BM64 CG&E Handicap 1400m:

GREENSPAN

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Struck a hot race last time out and was never suited around the tight Canterbury circuit in soft conditions. Really needs the tracks to dry out to bring his best and looks as though he will get that here.

Maiden Handicap 1250m:

BOMBARDEO

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Desperately unlucky not to win on debut last month. Has done well between runs and expecting him to be in the finish again.

Doomben Saturday August 22

Open Handicap 1100m:

COOL SEQUENCE

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Had excuses in three runs back from a lengthy injury-enforced break. Should be at his top now and is capable of causing a boilover in this company.

BM78 Handicap 1600m:

MISSED THE ALARM

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Ran a solid fourth when first-up over 1400m. This looks a suitable second-up assignment but won’t be hitting her straps until later in the prep.

Class 6 Handicap 1350m:

RECKLESS CHOICE

Steve O’Dea/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Returning from a short break after disappointing here in June. Yet to win fresh and prefers Eagle Farm but is well suited under the set weights conditions.

Gold Coast Saturday August 22

BM65 Handicap 1200m:

GOLDNEALA

Steve O’Dea/Anthony Allen

Comment: First-up run has been delayed due to heavy tracks but should get suitable conditions here with fine weather forecast through the week. Latest trial was solid and though probably wants further than 1200m, she can make an impact in this grade.

Class 4 Handicap 1400m:

TOO HOT TO HOLD

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: Finished a solid third first-up at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m. Can only improve with added fitness and distance.

Class 2 Handicap 1400m:

ROMALETTE

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: Scratched last week after being cast in her box overnight. Has recovered well since and gets her chance to find some form on debut for a new stable.

Sunshine Coast Sunday August 23

BM70 Handicap 1200m:

INVIGORATING

Steve O’Dea/Mark Du Plessis

Comment: She was our blackbooker last week after turning in a much improved run last start. Needs to go on with it now.

BM65 Handicap 1400m:

ROMALETTE

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: Scratched last week after being cast in her box overnight. Has recovered well since and gets her chance to find some form on debut for a new stable.

TOO HOT TO HOLD

Steve O’Dea/TBA

Comment: Finished a solid third first-up at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m. Can only improve with added fitness and distance.

QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate 1000m:

LITTLE RIVER

Steve O’Dea/Taylor Marshall

Comment: Half-sister to stakes-winning stablemate JAMI LADY. Been trialling well ahead of her debut and will likely be hard in the market.
