Joe Pride-trained four-year-old MASTERATI was the beneficiary of another exquisite Kerrin McEvoy ride at Newcastle on Tuesday.
Following a quintet of winners at Randwick last Saturday, McEvoy found the lead on MASTERATI from the outside gate and the pair were never headed, going on to win by almost 1-1/2 lengths.
Third-up from an extended break due to back soreness, the gelding was ready to hit his peak in the 1250m maiden and duly delivered – recording the fastest last 600m of the meeting in the process.
Pride has always had a healthy opinion of MASTERATI so it was pleasing to see the horse break through for his patient owners.
MASTERATI provided Proven Thoroughbreds’ 30th winner for the calendar year.
The stable finished the meeting with a double after Chapelco saluted in the 1350m C2.
Proven Thoroughbreds still has shares remaining in three two-year-olds with Joe Pride – CHOISIR x LALANI filly, FIGHTING SUN x HEAD OVER HEELS filly & ZOUSTAR x CLASSIC GUITAR colt.
