Proven Thoroughbreds purchased three lots during the second session of the 2018 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale, including our first horse to be trained by Archie Alexander at Ballarat.
It was announced this week that Archie Alexander would become Proven Thoroughbreds’ first exclusive Victorian-based trainer and the exciting new partnership already has its first horse – a colt by REDWOOD from the RED RANSOM mare ELLA MAREE (main picture).
Listed as lot 183, the colt cost NZ$75k which was deemed exceptional value. He is a beautiful bodied horse with great bone, and was a standout for Archie on type.
ELLA MAREE is a half-sister to Tarique – the dam of last year’s Geelong Classic winner WEATHER WITH YOU.
Earlier in the sale, Proven Thoroughbreds was lucky enough to secure lot 129 (picture left), a stunning TAVISTOCK colt out of Group 2 winning ZABEEL mare CRIMSON, for NZ$175k.
As well as winning multiple Group races, CRIMSON has produced stakes performers such as ABIDEWITHME, MISS SCARLATTI and A FAIRY’S KISS (dam of one of the toughest horses going around at the moment in DESTINY’S KISS).
Trainer in waiting John Thompson said the colt was his pick of the entire sale, so naturally we were delighted to take him home.
And the TAVISTOCK x ZABEEL cross is a proven one, evidenced by Group I winners WERTHER and TARZINO, as well as stakes winners like HASSELHOOF, PACORUS and GOBSTOPPER.
Our final purchase for the session was lot 284 (picture below), a colt by ZACINTO from I’VE GOT RHYTHM (by MOSSMAN) for NZ$75k.
From just 45 starters, ZACINTO has done a tremendous job at stud to register 25 winners (including a Group 1 winner and two Listed winners).
But the main appeal about this colt was the dam, who is a half-sister to G2 winner DANCES ON WAVES and BETTER ALTERNATIVE (dam of multiple G1 winner & champion Australian stayer 2015-16 PREFERMENT).
Joe Pride at Warwick Farm will be the trainer.
