BROOK MAGIC’s determined win at Randwick on Saturday saw Proven Thoroughbreds crash through $1 million in prizemoney for 2019.

The first four months of the year has yielded a healthy 25 winners and $1,024,230 for Proven Thoroughbreds. That tally has us well on the way to eclipsing our yearly record of 49 winners, set in 2017.

But Saturday’s result came as something of a surprise to trainer Joe Pride, who was concerned BROOK MAGIC had not trialled with the same zest as seen in previous campaigns.

The first three-quarters of the 1000m race would have done nothing to allay Joe’s fears, as the daughter of HINCHINBROOK was forced to deviate from her usual on-pace pattern and chase from a trailing position.

One of the first horses off the bit turning for home, BROOK MAGIC appeared to initially labour in the home straight but surged over the final 100m to claim an unlikely victory and a $58,000 cheque for her owners.

The four-year-old mare has been a wonderful advertisement for Proven Thoroughbreds’ value approach to purchasing yearlings. Knocked down for only $40k at the 2016 Inglis Classic Sale, BROOK MAGIC has taken her owners on a whirlwind ride, earning almost $300k in just 17 starts.

Joe has marked out a stakes race at Doomben in a month for BROOK MAGIC which should help capitalize on a fresh record that now reads six starts for four wins and a second. Victory there would boost her value into the hundreds of thousands.
