The Week Ahead MAR 11-17: LAMINGTON DRIVE on the board!

Mar 11, 2019

A big week ahead for Proven Thoroughbreds began with a landmark winner in Victoria on Monday.

Three-year-old gelding LAMINGTON DRIVE had his consistency finally rewarded when shedding his maiden tag over the 1600m Ballarat course, and in doing so, became our first winner with Victorian trainer Archie Alexander (pictured).

Proven Thoroughbreds officially joined in partnership with Archie last year as a means to expand the business into the southern state.

We currently have a quartet of two-year-olds in training with Archie, including the SHAMUS AWARD x TONZA ROSSA filly - whose dam is a full sister to the mother of RHAMES - an impressive debut winner of the race before LAMINGTON DRIVE. RHAMES is by HIGH CHAPARRAL so for him to win over 1100m at his first start indicates he is clearly above average. A small number of shares remain in our filly. CONTACT US for more details.

LAMINGTON DRIVE is our 13th winner for the calendar year.

We will be looking to continue our momentum through to the weekend with another nine horses set to line up for the black and lime green colours.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners:

Goulburn Thursday March 14:

BM58 1500m/Class 2 1400m

 ZEDFORCE

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Just found 1200m second-up a touch sharp but still hit the line well in third. Sure to appreciate the rise in trip and added fitness should put her in the firing line.

Kembla Grange Friday March 15:

BM64 1600m

 GREENSPAN

John Bateman/TBA

Comment: Strong winner last time out when rising from 1200m to 1600m. That run would have topped him off nicely for this fourth-up assignment. Going well and can win again.

Maiden 1600m

 IS THAT SO

Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton

Comment: Stretches out to the mile in search of his first win after two sound efforts at 1400m. Expected to improve up in distance but has to find that killer instinct.

Sunshine Coast Friday March 15:

Class 1 1600m

 TOO HOT TO HOLD

Steve O'Dea/Anthony Allen

Comment: Knocking on the door after three minor placings from as many starts this campaign. Wants a genuine tempo to show her best.

Gold Coast Saturday March 16:

BM70 1200m

 MASTERATI

Steve O'Dea/Mark Du Plessis

Comment: Always around the mark and tackles this race three weeks between runs which should suit. Likes to bowl along in front so barrier draw will be crucial to his chances.

Goldmarket Quality 1200m

 SCALLOPINI

Steve O'Dea/Ronnie Stewart

Comment: Excellent winner first-up at Eagle Farm and has earned a start in this company. Ideally would like to see him settle around midfield with cover so he can display his turn of foot at the business end of the race.

Class 6 1400m

 SO SPIRITED

Steve O'Dea/Ronnie Stewart

Comment: On debut for the stable having done his previous racing in Sydney. Looks to have a Brisbane Saturday win in him and can figure in his first run interstate with some luck in running.

Class 3 1800m

 SORNJA

Steve O'Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: 10 seconds does not inspire confidence but was a brilliant winner over this track and distance as a three-year-old.

Sunshine Coast Sunday March 17:

2YO Maiden 1000m

 CONTEMPTUOUS

Steve O'Dea/Boris Thornton

Comment: Has looked good at the trials, winning with ease at Deagon last week. By exciting first-season sire Rubick, this colt has shown above average ability so we approach his debut with some anticipation.
