A Proven double!
Jul 11, 2018
Perennial backmarker ARGENT D’OR was afforded a hot speed in the last race at Warwick Farm and came with a swooping run to win in a nail-biting photo finish for trainer Joe Pride (pictured) and jockey Andrew Adkins.
It was a nervous wait for connections as a few minutes passed before the judge confirmed ARGENT D’OR had prevailed by the barest of margins.
Four wins and five minor placings has now taken the SEBRING gelding’s prizemoney up to $205,050.
Earlier in the day at sunny Ipswich, RECKLESS CHOICE finally had his consistency rewarded with a demolition job.
Following a frustrating sequence of six minor placings, the Steve O’Dea-trained 3yo romped to a 5.25-length win in the 1350m maiden for colts and geldings.
Apprentice jockey Boris Thornton allowed RECKLESS CHOICE to take over proceedings before the home turn and in a matter of strides the pair had victory parcelled up, to the delight of punters who took the short odds of $1.45.
RECKLESS CHOICE’s record now reads nine starts for one win and six placings. His only two unplaced runs came at his first and second outings when finishing fourth.
The win extended Proven Thoroughbreds’ perfect record with the progeny of CHOISIR, with six winners from six to race. The most notable of that sextet is of course, SIR MOMENTS, who was retired earlier this year after a career that yielded $826,750 in prizemoney.
Wednesday’s double brings Proven Thoroughbreds’ tally of winners up to 22 winners for the calendar year and 47 for the 2017-18 season.
