2017 was an exceptional year for PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS, with an unprecedented number of winners and some exciting prospects to look forward to in 2018.
Our 49 winners in 2017 almost doubled last year’s tally of 25 with Steve O’Dea providing 22 (currently preparing 23 PROVEN horses), Joe Pride 12 (16 horses), John Thompson 11 (17 horses), John Bateman 2 (5 horses), Keith Dryden 1 (1) and Nick Olive 1 (1).
Clearly all our trainers are performing, with Steve O’Dea’s consistency and strike rate noteworthy. And whilst we’re running more horses than previous seasons, the strategy of purchasing better quality stock in the last 3 years appears to be working.
The current crop of 4yo’s, purchased in 2015, include CANDIKA, BLANCO CARA, ARGENT D’OR, SO SPIRITED, MASTERATI, TAMARACK, BLONDE BY CHOICE and SORNJA – all winners in 2017.
The class of 2016 includes promising 3yo’s SCALLOPINI, DISCREET CHARM, SHOW ME THE HONEY, BROOK MAGIC, ZEDFORCE, FRANCISCA, WAS IT WORTH IT, EVERYDAY LADY and GREENSPAN (also all winners in 2017). While our only 2yo runner (24 unraced) so far this season, SIENNA ROSE, was city placed on a Saturday.
